Transgender Representation

Alex Schmider is the Associate Director of Transgender Representation, where he serves as an expert educator, consultant, and advisor to Hollywood and entertainment entities about how to approach LGBQ and, specifically, transgender storytelling.

Prior to first joining GLAAD’s team in 2016 as the Senior Strategist for Transgender Media, he worked as the Communications Coordinator at the Los Angeles LGBT Center where he became a recognized media spokesman. Alex went on to work at Grindr where he managed digital talent and produced video and editorial content for its award-winning digital publication INTO. Schmider was selected as one of Forbes 30 Under 30 for Media in 2017, and the same year received the Visibility Award from Los Angeles Pride.

Since rejoining GLAAD, Alex has independently produced feature documentary films, and advises on television, film, music, tech, and corporate projects that champion diversity, inclusion, and authenticity in LGBTQ representation and storytelling.

He received his Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology from Tufts University in 2013 with a minor in Media & Communications, concentrating on the effects of media representation and consumer behaviors on identity and interpersonal relationships.
